This evolution of a smoke alarm provides a more user-friendly alternative to existing products, as well as a potentially safer option.

 

The remote control visual indication unit provides helpful reminders about vital maintenance tasks that are often forgotten, as well as an end of life warning. The wall mounting bracket enables the unit to be positioned within the line of sight, where the LED lighting will attract the attention of the eye and provide a subtle yet effective reminder in comparison with the frustrating chirping noise used on other alarms. The unit also enables users to overcome some of the frustrations associated with reaching their alarms, with a “test alarm” button as well as a “hush” button for false alarms.

 

This is one of four concept proposals completed as a module during my final year at the University of Huddersfield 2016/2017.
