This test-tube attachment helps to improve classroom safety during practical lessons and also provides a potential cost-saving solution for static and decreasing budgets that many science departments are facing.
The cross-like shape of the ring prevents test tubes from rolling off of worktops and breaking and also enables tubes to be stacked in a modular arrangement for storage. Grooves located underneath the ring ensure a non-slip grip for the transportation of heated substances with tongs, while the thermochromic rubber provides a visual indicator that the tube is too hot to touch.
This is one of four concept proposals completed as a module during my final year at the University of Huddersfield 2016/2017.
